Sondra Kreiner
Rug hooking is just one of Sondra Maddox Kreiner’s talents and abilities. She was educated as a CPA and holds an MBA in Accounting. When she retired from Entergy Utility Co., she taught Accounting at University of Houston-Downtown. She is still an adjunct professor, which gives her more time to devote to her rug hooking activities. Around 20 years ago, Sondra began hooking rugs when her mother, Karen Maddox, received numerous commissions from a New York City art gallery. Sondra helped out with the patterns, rug hooking, and even attending classes.
One of Sondra’s favorite art-related memories is learning shading and perspective in backyard art classes that her mother set up for neighborhood children. Sondra started pursuing art when she was eight years old! Years later, it was her mother, Karen Maddox, who pinned her at Southern McGown Teacher’s Workshop in West Virginia. Sondra had completed her McGown Teacher Certification series for rug hooking.
Karen Maddox
Widely known for custom designs in rug hooking, Karen Maddox also taught classes on the art. She was a certified McGown instructor and taught at numerous state and regional workshops and camps. A retired educator with a M.Ed., she was active in education as well as the arts. Her work was featured in numerous publications including Rug Hooking Magazine’s Celebrations and the magazine of The Association of Traditional Hooking Artists. Her work “Giraffe” was on a cover of this association’s magazine.
